Benedict Cumberbatch has been cast in the upcoming survival movie The And We Start From alongside Jodie Comer.
Directed by Mahalia Belo (Requiem, The Long Song) and based on the novel by Megan Hunter, The End We Start From follows a young family torn apart by the devastating floods in the City of London.
A synopsis reads: “When an environmental crisis sees London engulfed by floodwaters, a young family is torn apart in chaos.
As a woman and her baby try to find their way home, the profound novelty of motherhood is highlighted in this dystopian portrait of family survival and hope. "
In addition to Cumberbatch and Comer, the film stars Mark Strong, Katherine Waterston, Joel Fry, Gina McKee and Nina Sosanya.
The End We Start From was adapted by writer Alice Birch, known for her work on Normal People and Succession. A release date has not yet been announced.
Speaking about her role (via The Hollywood Report), Comer said: "My character is both ordinary and extraordinary,
both her personal life and the world around her have been turned upside down and she has to do with the unknown at every turn step.
